This is the new frontier.
Anxiety, panic attacks, depression, insomnia: these disorders in the contemporary era are increasingly widespread, as are drug treatments to deal with them.
It now seems automatic to see a doctor if you suffer from severe anxiety attacks and the doctor usually prescribes drugs as if they were candy.
Here then some have started to think about using other types of remedies against anxiety, a little more natural and with fewer contraindications.
Among these remedies, as we will explain in the article, there is the use of CBD against anxiety and panic attacks or other types of psychological disorders.
CBD against anxiety and depression
Anxiety is a generalized state of fear that prevents us from carrying out normal activities, often caused by stress.
When stress is moderate, not only does it not hurt but it is even beneficial because it pushes us to do our best to bring our projects to completion.
However, when it exceeds a certain threshold it becomes negative and unmanageable: overwhelmed by things to do, we feel unable to respond to the too many challenges that are posed to us, and we often react by avoiding any type of problem that presents itself to us, trying to deny it and remove it because it is too demanding.
Here then comes anxiety, that constant and subtle state of nervousness, of danger, of an undefined threat. It is an extremely unpleasant and exhausting state of mind, and we would do everything to escape it.
CBD can help combat mild and moderate anxiety states, relax and regain control of ourselves, of our sensations. For some time, scholars have been evaluating the effects of cannabidiol as a remedy for anxiety and depression, and the results are encouraging: CBD oil, which is one of the most widespread and effective formulations containing CBD, has proved extremely useful, at the indicated dosage, for the treatment of anxiety and depression.
The use of CBD oil against anxiety and depression has proved to be very effective, and not harmful to the body; it promotes relaxation and according to some, in addition to anxiety, it would also bring relief to other more serious disorders related to anxiety, namely post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Anxiety is not the only disorder, as we have said, that can be treated by using CBD and products containing CBD.
It should be noted that CBD is very different from cannabis and THC, which is its addictive psychoactive compound; cannabidiol is not addictive, it only produces beneficial effects (at the appropriate dosage) as an anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, analgesic, and various other uses; it is effective, as we have said, also against anxiety, depression, insomnia and other psychological disorders.
According to some clinical tests carried out, CBD would also be effective for treating specific disorders such as social anxiety.
Those who suffer from social anxiety are led to reducing social contacts and with other people to a minimum because these are a source of anxiety that manifests itself with physical disorders (tremor, excessive sweating, tachycardia, dizziness, dry mouth, etc.).
Progressively there is a social withdrawal of the subject, who in addition to closing contacts with friends and other people also experiences problems with daily and work activities; it is, therefore, an extremely disabling condition that must be dealt with seriously, turning to a psychologist or a serious professional who can help us.
However, valuable help can also come from cannabidiol, which according to various studies would be able to promote relaxation and well-being, and therefore also help against social anxiety and the fear of being in public with others.
Some report that after taking CBD as a group with friends they felt much more sociable, expansive, and drawn to social relationships.
Effects of CBD against anxiety: how does it work?
How does CBD work against anxiety? Simple: CBD stimulates numerous neural connections within the brain, becoming able to relieve anxiety.
These are studies carried out so far mainly on animals (therefore caution is required in attributing miraculous powers to CBD oil); but the studies are promising and seem to show that CBD actually plays a therapeutic role in the presence of states of anxiety and panic (yes, even against performance anxiety).
CBD also acts against depression, caused (in very few words) also by a reduction in serotonin levels; CBD seems to increase the level of serotonin within us. In this it acts exactly like SSRI drugs (serotonin reuptake inhibitors), drugs used precisely for the treatment of depressive syndromes.
Other clinical studies have shown a noticeable reduction in anxiety in patients taking CBD oil. CBD oil therefore seems to show excellent potential in the treatment of anxiety and associated disorders.
But what is the dosage indicated for CBD oil against anxiety? The answer is that it depends. It usually starts with the minimum recommended dosage for the treatment of these disorders, and then progressively increases, evaluating the effects from time to time.
What are the effects of cannabis by inhalation?
In addition to the CBD drops that can be taken to relieve anxiety, panic, insomnia and the ailments we have seen above, CBD can also be inhaled.
Further studies have been made to evaluate the effectiveness of cannabidiol via inhalation for the treatment of anxiety and panic. The results were positive and encouraging: through the intake of cannabidiol at high levels (over 9% concentration) and THC at low levels (concentration around 5%) there was a strong decrease in feelings of anxiety and fear and a strong increase in the levels of well-being and serenity.
This study therefore also serves to disprove the belief that the beneficial effect should be attributed to THC and not to cannabidiol; THC in these cases was not the main component, quite the contrary.
According to this research, antidepressant drugs would also prove effective only in the short term, while CBD could also work in the medium and long term following an interruption in cannabis use.
Further studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis.
